James Dickey, OD

How can you know more about the doctor that cares for your eyes? Perhaps by evaluating training, experience, clinical skill, and even "bedside manner" you can gain some insight. Yet every patient knows that it is trust that is most important. Who is this person to whom you entrust your eye care?

Dr. James Dickey has been practicing optometry for more than thirty years, and has demonstrated his care and skills to thousands of patients during that time.

After graduating with honors from Georgetown College, Jim attended The Ohio State University for his optometric training. Upon his graduation from Ohio State, Dr. Dickey established a practice in his native Ohio until his move west.

Dr. Dickey's practice experience includes many years in his own private practice, several years in an eye surgery practice, and even a stint as a clinic instructor at the Ohio State College of Optometry. In addition to the "traditional" clinical experience he has, Jim has ventured overseas on many occasions to help the needy in third-world countries. Having cared for thousands of patients in the villages of Honduras, the homes of peasants in Ukraine, and even in the desert refugee camps of Iran, Dr. Dickey understands that eye care is a precious gift not to be taken for granted.

Jim and his wife, Wendy, have lived in the Chadron area since 2004, though Wendy is originally a Crawford native.

Jim has a great deal of experience in every aspect of the eye care profession, including:

1) Tackling virtually any contact lens challenge, including disposable contacts, lenses for astigmatism, bifocal contacts, and even special lens fitting for ocular pathologies.

2) Working with children. His easy-going style lets him build rapport with kids and get the best results from them.

3) Educating patients regarding their eyes and the best eye health choices for them. (Once a teacher, always a teacher.)

4) Listening. Knowing how to help a patient requires taking the time to know and understand that patient's needs.

You can trust your eyes to the care you receive at NorthWest Eye Center because you can trust the doctor who provides it.

Our Practice Goals

NorthWest Eye Center was founded to supply premium eye care to the northwest Nebraska market area with the following goals in mind:

1) Provide the highest quality optometric care including:
a) A strong focus on providing excellent medical eye care including management and treatment of glaucoma and post-operative care following cataract surgery and laser vision correction.                                                                                                                                           b) Contact lens fitting utilizing disposables and toric soft contacts and gas permeable lenses, even for hard-to-fit problems and pathological conditions requiring special expertise.
c) Complete ocular health analysis including visual field screening, retinal photography and ocular coherence tomography.
d) The best possible care in obtaining good refractive measurements from all patients, including the very young or very old.

2) Provide stylish, affordable eyewear for everyone. Patients are often frustrated by the high cost of care in most private optometric offices, so are tempted to seek care from bargain providers. Pricing at NWEC is significantly lower, and those with insurance can often get complete care for only the cost of their co-pays.

3) Care for patients in an atmosphere that allows them to relax and enjoy the visit. Personal attention and relaxed scheduling let patients know they are important.

4) Offer an on-site laboratory for faster service on prescriptions. Many single vision glasses can be made the same day.

5) Provide competitive pricing and in-stock availability on contact lenses. Our pricing is usually lower than buying from some internet company that provides absolutely no professional care for patients.

6) Conduct all our business in a fashion consistent with our Faith.
